Decorating on a Budget: Tips for an Instagrammable Bedroom

Happy Wednesday everyone!! I am so excited to share this post, because interior design and decoration is such a huge passion of mine!  My style is very simplistic/minimalistic, natural, and white, and I love incorporating plants and “earthy” elements into my space (crystals, sage, essential oils, etc)!  I believe your space should promote positivity, inspiration and zen, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune!  Here are some of my favorite ways to decorate on a budget and create your perfect space!

PS, since Doug and I are going to be moving in together in just a few short months (YAY!!) get ready for all of the interior design, room tours and vlogs!  Leave any requests below, I am so excited to share our journey with you!

Decide on a Budget (and stick to it!)

This will be the most difficult tip to follow on this list, I can promise you!! Whether you’re decorating your entire home, or just one small area, decide on a reasonable budget and stick to it!  Save a little bit of money from each paycheck, sell some un-needed items (clothes, handbags, shoes, etc), do a few odd jobs, and start building a savings account from it!  Not only will you be saving up for something that is important to you, but you won’t be hurting your bank account in the long run!

Plan Ahead

Plan out the items that are “essential”, and the items that are “extra”, and allow yourself to separate what is a want versus a need!  My bed “essentials” include: white sheets & pillow cases, a comforter, and a good sleeping pillow.  My “extras” include: throw pillows, a throw blanket, and additional design elements (example: my two photos on the wall).  Purchase the “essentials” first, and with the leftover money begin to purchase the “extras”.  The “essentials” may not be quite as fun to purchase, but it will allow you to establish an area before adding anything “extra”!

Shop Around

Decorating does not have to cost a fortune, and with a little bit of research you’ll be saving big time!  Instead of constantly shopping at the name brand home stores, try looking on Etsy, Amazon, or eBay for amazing quality items for less!  Wool blankets, for example, have literally taken over Instagram and are both incredibly popular and extremely overpriced!  With days (not kidding) of searching, I finally found the one in the photo above for an incredible price from a small store on Etsy!  Did I mention the quality is perfection?!  Try searching around for items before purchasing anything, saving even a few dollars will make all of the difference! (PS, stay in touch for how we found a brand new KitchenAid mixer for $300 LESS; post coming soon)!

Be Sensible

Remember that budget that we talked about earlier?  I know, I hate thinking about it just as much as you do!  As much as I want every single item from Anthropologie, a $150 throw pillow may not be the best investment.  Shop local, and utilize all of the amazing home stores that sell beautiful items on a budget!  I can spend hours browsing Target and HomeGoods, and I always find incredible pieces for a low price!  Stick to your budget, and maybe splurge on an item or two in the future!

DIY It

This is one of my favorite tips, because you can DIY almost anything for a very low cost!  Anything you can buy, you can DIY!  I’ll admit, I watch way more HGTV, Mr. Kate, and other interior design YouTube videos more than the average 21 year old, but I have seriously learned some valuable tips on decorating!  You also don’t have to be an artist to create something beautiful!

Example: On Instagram and Pinterest I’ve noticed tons of framed photos/artwork above beds lately, and you can buy framed 15×18 cactus/palm leaf photos (the size I have above my bed) for over $100 EACH online… No thank you! Since I wanted to include two framed photos above my bed, I searched for printable photos on Etsy that I could purchase (no copywrite, yay!) and print myself!  Both of these photos reached a combined total of less than $5 to download, and I was given numerous size options that I could print.  After purchasing two cheap white frames, and printing out the photos at a local store, I was able to DIY this project for less than $30

Incorporate Natural Elements

I love incorporating plants, fresh flowers, and natural elements into my space, and this can easily be done on a budget!  Find a local garden center, florist, or your own backyard, and pick out some fresh flowers and plants to brighten your space!  I like to add a few crystals, essential oils, and a cleansing sage session to embrace all of the positivity and good energy, and I always have a few cacti, succulents, and various plants potted around my space!  Fresh flowers and plants will always add a level of the desired “Instagram aesthetic” to any room! 😉

What are some of your favorite ways to decorate on a budget, or to create your “Instagrammable” space?!  Definitely let me know!  I hope you all have a beautiful Wednesday!

Love & Good Vibes

I honestly feel like you wrote everything I did while decorating my home office !!!

I shopped around so much for every single item- I made Wikibuy and Honey work for it, and ended up buying a lot from Amazon Jet and Etsy! I also DIYed some gold and rose gold vases out of mason jars and spray paint, as well as spray painted my desk (Ikea Kallax) marble. I also planned for my whole office to be white with rose gold and gold accents, so I scoured the web for a white chair, a white couch and white throw furs!!! This post takes me back to when I was shopping for my space, and it was oh so exciting!

Thanks so much for this great tidbits! <3
